Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Opens This Week

Tim Plumley as Willy Wonka

Carroll County Community Theatre presents the musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl March 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m. and March 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. This musical is directed by Lisa York and music directed by Jennifer Green. Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man (played by Tim Plumley) and his quest to fine an heir, comes to life in a scrumdidilyumptious world. Tim recently stole the show in CCCT’s Dracula as the insane character of Renfield and brings a little of that intensity back to the stage in this role.

Fifty-five actors of all ages take the stage for the next two weeks in the sugary sweet world of Willy Wonka. They will perform on a set designed by Carl York and built with a host of volunteer set artists and construction staff. The set includes an elevator designed and created by Jimmy Futrelle. And it also includes a Wonkavator that has arrived on stage from Las Vegas. In addition to providing the Wonkavator, Flying by Foy, with trained volunteers, will once again be flying actors in the show. The actors will be in full color thanks to costume designs by Nan Stephens and air brushed make up by Cindi Winstead and their crews. Ginger Parsons has returned as Properties Manager and has had a ball creating some of the candy used in the show. The behind-the-scenes crew and the actors have a few surprises in store for their audiences that will make the show a lot of fun for everyone with a sweet tooth.

Audience members will be “treated” to a chocolate filled opening night, complete with barista coffee bar compliments of Five Star Food Service, sponsors of the reception. The opening reception begins at 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 17 and is included free with show tickets. All audiences at all shows will have an opportunity to win a golden ticket by attending. While these golden tickets may be won by adults, only children will be allowed to redeem most of them. There will, however, be a few adult golden ticket prizes on opening night provided by area restaurants and the Atlanta Opera.

Funding for this program is provided by the Community Foundation of West Georgia, Georgia Council for the Arts Grassroots Arts Program and the National Endowment for the Arts. Take a ride into a land of pure imagination. Tickets are $10 for all ages. For more information or to order tickets call 770-838-1083.
