Don’t forget to celebrate the start of this year’s The Big Read tonight with a showing of the 1974 film The Great Gatsby, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great American novel.
The screening will take place this evening at the University of West Georgia’s Education Center with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and the introduction of the movie at 7:00 p.m. Free tickets are still available for the screening and can be picked up at the Neva Lomason Memorial Library or at the door to the UWG Education Center.
The film, which was adapted for the big screen by Francis Ford Coppola, stars Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby, Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan and Sam Waterston as Nick Carraway. The 1974 film is widely considered to be the best screen adaptation of the book and is notable for winning two Oscar awards,
three BAFTA awards and a Golden Globe in 1975.
The movie is sponsored by the Friends of the Neva Lomason Memorial Library and is the first 2011 Big Read event in Carroll County. For more details please visit the West Georgia Regional Library’s The Big Read Website.
