Info for March 15 Election


The 2011 election cycle begins for Carroll County on March 15, with a referendum on a 1% sales tax for education, or ESPLOST. The referendum will decide whether or not to extend the existing 1% ESPLOST, it does not create an addition %1 tax.

The ballot is quite lengthy and citizens are encouraged to obtain a sample ballot before heading to the polls. The sample ballot can be found here.

The last day for residents to register to vote for the March election is Feb. 14. Some important information for registering:

* Voter registration forms should be printed clearly using blue or black ink.

* Failure to complete all required information will delay your application.

* If you are registering for the first time by mail you are required to submit a copy of a current photo ID, a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement or other government document that shows your name and address. For additional information regarding this requirement, please visit www.sos.georgia.gov.

* Registration forms by mail must be postmarked by Feb. 14 in order to be eligible for the March 15 election.

* Completed applications cannot be faxed.

Early voting for the March 15 election will run from March 7 through March 11 at the Carroll County Elections Office located at 423 College Street in Carrollton. The hours of advanced voting have changed from previous elections. Prior to the March 15 election, voting will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
