Temple Convenience Center Expansion Complete

The Carroll County Public Works Department recently completed work on an expanded attendant’s office at the Temple convenience center, the latest in a line of improvements to convenience centers around Carroll County; crews should begin work at the Dyer Road location in the next few weeks.

The work done at the Temple location came at a cost of approximately $6,000, which went towards modernizing the existing on-site facility. A new building was constructed, complete with weatherproofing, a heating and air-conditioning unit and new plumbing, altogether marking a significant expansion over the previous space.

Since 2008, the county has performed similar work at two of its 11 centers—Bowdon and Bowdon Junction—adding recycling services, instituting an attendant and building an attendant’s office. On the whole, said Carroll County Public Works Supervisor Charles Pope, these measures have improved the look of the centers and have allowed the county to expand services for residents.

“It’s been a real good thing,” Pope said. “People regularly use these centers, and we want them to be as nice and accessible as possible.”

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted in early February to purchase .91 acres for the future expansion of the Dyer Road convenience center, and county officials are confident the work at the Dyer Road location will relieve the problems previously seen at the center. Work expanding and retooling the center will begin in the coming weeks, Pope said, and it is anticipated to last six weeks. During that time, recycling services at the facility could be limited, due to the large-scale nature of the work.

Cost of this work is estimated at roughly $100,000, which includes the $45,000 spent to purchase the property.

“We’re excited about Dyer Road,” Pope said. “It’s something that matters to a lot of people around there, and this should help out a lot.”
