Eager youth and adults from around the region were present Saturday at the Carroll County Agricultural Education Center to show off their cattle farming prowess during the 2011 West Georgia Livestock Show.
The show, which is in its 52nd year, was sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and a variety of local businesses, organizations and individuals.
Since it began in 1959, the livestock show has afforded young farmers a great opportunity to build a sense of responsibility, while at the same time giving them valuable experience as to the dos and don’ts of raising and showing animals. This year's show featured classes for kids both big and small, giving youth of all ages an opportunity to get in on the fun.
As always, the show featured commercial heifer and steer contests for adults, with various awards given in each category. No matter how old the participant, though, the show has always fostered a spirit of pride and friendly competition among the region's cattle farmers, and this year was certainly no exception.
